Police Arrest WhatsApp Admin, Members For...In Kano State

Police Arrest WhatsApp Admin, Members For...In Kano State
For circulating fake news about a married woman said to be involved in trafficking children, the Police in Kano State have arrested the administrator and members of a Whatsapp group.
Magaji Musa Maaji, spokesman of the Kano Police Command, told PR Nigeria that the suspects were arrested after the woman lodged a complaint with the Police.
According to Magaji, “We received a complaint from a married woman and a civil servant, Mrs Bushirat Madaki, that her picture is being shared on WhatsApp group with the intent to malign and incite the public against her.
“Upon receiving the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Rabiu Yusuf, ordered an immediate investigation by a special team, who were able to trace and arrest three married suspects, a man and two women, for circulating the fake and offensive information.
“When confronted on the petition against them, the suspects admitted that the image and material on the woman were shared and forwarded in their group.
“They also admitted that they didn’t know the woman in person and have never had interaction with her before distributing the image and the story. They, therefore, sought forgiveness.
“For now, the Police Command has granted the suspects bail because the offence is bailable, while further investigation is ongoing. The Police command is also currently providing security cover for the innocent woman for fear of mob attacks, because her image and the false report on her have gone viral.”
Noting that it is an offence to circulate fake news that could negatively affect the nation’s security or jeopardise an individual’s personal freedom, the Police spokesman urged social media users “to be wary of what they receive and share or forward on social media, especially WhatsApp”.
He continued: “We should guard against the misuse of social media platforms by sharing and forwarding objectionable or fake messages.”

Court Remands Alleged Blackmailers as Osun Lawmaker's Nude Video Goes Viral
Residents of Osun State were left in disbelief following the emergence of a 13-second nude video of the Majority Leader of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr Timothy Owoeye.

In the video, Owoeye, representing Ilesa East, was caught by some persons who alleged he was performing a ritual bath in the market square for success in the forthcoming elections.
But sources close to Owoeye said he was kidnapped by a ritual syndicate who recorded the video with the aim of extorting money from him.
The source said, “There was nothing like what they were saying. He was not caught taking his bath with blood. He was kidnapped by some fraudsters who took him to the place, and if he was bathing with blood, the video will show traces of blood on him but there is nothing like that. He was stripped and he was not even bathing.
“The video recording is very lengthy but it was edited to blackmail him. He was swindled and the police have recovered over N9 million. The police have the complete recording. He went to his church for a thanksgiving after the incident because he was not killed.”
The Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, told our correspondent on the telephone that the police have arraigned those behind the leaked video on Friday and the court ordered that they should be remanded in prison custody.
He described them as fraudsters who were threatening to blackmail the lawmakers with the aim of extorting money from him.
He said, “We recovered over N10 million from them, they are fraudsters who are ready to blackmail him as part of their strategy to stop him from complaining to the police.
“He was gullible and he fell into the hands of fraudsters. He was lured into the hands of the fraudsters by somebody he claimed he had known for a long time. Unknown to him, the man is a fraudster too and they went ahead to collect a lot of money from him. He went and borrowed because they were collecting the money from him continuously.
“He was then taken to around Osunjela where he was made to undress. Unknown to him, the fraudsters had positioned some people who shot the video when he was assaulted. But we thank God that he summoned the courage and reported the case to the police.”

Herdsmen behead Adamawa PDP chairman, flee with head

Yola: Suspected Fulani herdsmen have beheaded the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in  Bare ward in the Numan Local Government Area, ADAMAWA State, Charles Chrisanthus, The politician was reportedly killed in the presence of his wife, Dorcas, in his farm on August 29, 2018.The widow of the slain PDP chieftain is, however, accusing the police of shielding the killers of her husband.

Speaking in an interview with our correspondent at the State Criminal Investigation Department where she had gone to lodge her complaint on Tuesday, Dorcas told Northern City News that only justice for her slain husband would bring her peace.

She said she was holding her four-month old son and watched helplessly as the assailants hacked her husband to death.

“His attackers led by our Fulani neighbours repeatedly stabbed him on the back and on his stomach before beheading my husband in our farm and made away with his head,” she said

.Claiming to have made some arrests, the police had invited the widow of the slain ward chairman and three other female witnesses to the state Criminal Investigation Department for their statements.

It was at the CID that the families of the deceased were alerted to the whereabouts of the suspected killers.

The bereaved families, it was learnt, discovered that some of the suspects arrested in connection with the killing were receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.

Dorcas said she could identify her husband’s killers, insisting that the police were shielding them from answering for their crime.

“The police under the guise of allowing the suspects to seek medical attention are shielding those that killed my husband. The only thing I want is justice,” she stated.

A PDP youth leader in Bare ward, Tekas Adiel, explained that the police earlier claimed that the Fulanis who perpetrated the killings had fled the community, insisting that the same assailants carried out another attack on Tuesday.

But the Police Public Relations officer in the state, Musa Habibu, insisted that some of the alleged perpetrators of the crime were in custody, adding that investigation into the incident was ongoing.

Asked about the suspects allegedly receiving medical attention in a hospital, the spokesman simply retorted, “A suspect has a right to medical attention if he is sick.”

“Some arrests have been made and those arrested are in police custody. I have had consultations with the assistant commissioner of police handling the issue who said arrest had been made.”

“But if they said one of those arrested is receiving medical attention, a suspect has a right to medication if he’s truly sick, it could be but I don’t have that information,” Habibu said.

A woman identified as Nkiru Okoye is currently receiving treatment in a hospital after she was allegedly attacked with acid by her ex-lover in Anambra state.

It was gathered that the woman had been formerly married, but broke up with her spouse, before falling in love with the said ex-lover.

According to reports, the young man in question is said to be younger than Nkiru, hence his family insisted they put an end to the relationship as their son would never marry an older woman. The lady’s family also concurred, but the young man wouldn’t give up, it was alleged. .

Soon after the said incident, the young man sneaked into her room again through the back door, and as Nkiru was about unlocking her door, he poured a bowl of raw acid on her, which ran down through her ear, neck region, breast to her back section

He poured a second one again on her, extending from her back down to all-over her buttocks and even towards her laps. The lady has since been transferred from a hospital in Awka to an Orthopedic hospital in Enugu state ,where she’s currently being treated.
